Clark College’s 60th anniversary Jazz Festival will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 with a performance by the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band in a fundraising concert for jazz band scholarships.

With seven Grammy Award nominations, the One O’Clock Lab Band is noted for its musicianship and tight ensemble performance. Concerts feature compositions and arrangements from the University of Texas Jazz Library as well as music composed or arranged by women musicians.

The concert in the Gaiser Student Center at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way is open to the public. Tickets are $22 if purchased online at clarkbookstore.com or $25 cash at the door. Donations in lieu of attendance are welcome. The Clark College Jazz Band will open the concert with a 30-minute set.

Clark College’s Jazz Festival, Jan. 25-27 in the Gaiser Student Center, is open to the public at $10 per day. The festival attracts 60 middle and high school instrumental jazz ensembles. During the day, groups perform to a panel of judges for the privilege of returning to perform in the evening finals competition, where they’ll be ranked for first, second and third place. On the festival’s final evening, one band is selected for the Sweepstakes Trophy.

This year’s festival highlights include Yamaha trumpet artist Allen Vizzutti performing with the Clark College Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26. The Mountain View High School Jazz Band, last year’s sweepstakes winner, will play at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27. The complete festival competition schedule is at clark.edu.
