Boys basketball roundup: Skyview surges late to force OT, beat Chiwana

Skyview boys basketball rallied to force overtime and beat Chiawana 82-77 on Thursday in Pasco.

The Storm trailed 56-47 heading into the fourth quarter. With 20 seconds left, Malakai Weimer scored while being fouled. He made the free throw to tie the game 71-71.

Skyview (4-5) trailed 44-30 at halftime after being outscored 28-14 in the second quarter. But the Storm got a spark from Gavin Packer’s 4-point play late in the third quarter.

“I was proud of our determination to get back into the game,” Skyview coach Matt Gruher said. “It would have been easy to fold in a tough situation after a long road trip but it was fun to watch our kids make big plays down the stretch.”

Gavin Perdue led Skyview with 19 points. Senior post Jaxson Filler added 17 points and Weimer had 16 points.

Tyson Landoni scored 32 points and Gage Williams added 27 points for Chiawana.

SEHOME 74, PRAIRIE 73, OT — Cam Newsome scored all 22 of his points in the second half and overtime as the Falcons narrowly lost their opener at the Mountlake Terrace tournament.

Newsome had nine points, all on 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. He then scored eight of Prairie’s 14 points in overtime.

Brandon Carter scored 18 points, making six of Prairie’s 12 3-pointers.

The Falcons (5-4) conclude play at the two-day tournament Friday against North Creek.

EVERGREEN 79, WOODLAND 44 — The Plainsmen scored 30 points in the third quarter to take control of the 7th place game at the T-Town Throwdown in Tacoma.

Leading 24-19 at halftime, Evergreen outscored Woodland 30-14 in the third quarter and 25-11 in the fourth.

Landon Rayner led Evergreen (6-4) with 17 points. Arthur Ban added 14 points.

Lucas Logan scored 16 points to lead Woodland (3-7).

RIDGEFIELD 68, BAINBRIDGE 58 — Jamison McCann scored 15 points to lead five Spudders in double-figures at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix, Ariz.

Colton Castro scored 14 points, Colton Warren added 13 points, Jack Hughes had 12 points and Cole Chester Chipped in 11 points.

With the game tied 30-30 at halftime, Ridgefield (6-3) outscored Bainbridge 22-13 in the third quarter.

The Spudders will face Kelso on Saturday for fourth place in the tournament’s Jam Division.

GRAVES COUNTY (Ky.) 47, COLUMBIA RIVER 40 — Ari Richardson scored 13 points but the Rapids went cold late in the semifinals at Surf N Slam in La Mesa, Calif.

Columbia River (7-3) entered the fourth quarter tied 33-33 but were held to seven points over the final eight minutes.

The Rapids will face Mountain View (Calif.) for third place on Saturday.
