Five out of the last six 3A state girls bowling titles belong to the Evergreen Plainsmen.

A year after having a string of four straight titles cut, Evergreen is back on top as it won the 3A state title on Thursday by 152 pins over Kennewick and 395 pins over third-place Thomas Jefferson of Auburn.

Competing at Bowlero in Tukwila, Evergreen led 4911-4799 over Kennewick after Wednesday’s individual rounds that saw Plainsman senior Kierra Wilcox win the individual title by one pin.

The team titles were decided by Thursday’s 14 rounds of baker games — where the game score is made by the entire team.

Evergreen averaged 162 in its baker games with the highest score of 214 coming in the second baker. The Plainsmen also had a 195 in the fourth baker and 193 in the 10th baker.

Kennewick had a 234 and a 210 among its bakers, and averaged out to 159.

State bowlers for Evergreen included Wilcox, Alexis Clarke, who was sixth in the individual standings on Wednesday, Belia Curry, Zoey Mikkelson, Chloe Shove, and Alissa Barber.

Evergreen was also the 3A state champs in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. After no tournament in 2021 due to COVID, the Plainsmen finished fourth in 2022.

The state tournament continues Friday and Saturday at Bowlero with the 4A and 2A/1A events taking place. Columbia River and R.A. Long qualified for the 2A/1A team competition and Skyview in the 4A.
