Letter: Mountain View band hits high note

Congratulations to the Mountain View High School Jazz Ensemble for their performance at the recent Clark College Jazz Festival. These kids get up early every day to rehearse before their school day begins. The effort paid off as they played a roaring set Saturday afternoon and, later the same night, were awarded first place in their division and the coveted Dale Beacock Memorial Sweepstakes trophy for best overall group out of more than 60 bands that played over two days.

I am impressed and grateful (having had my own kids in band) how hard the music teachers in our area work to bring these young musicians to a higher level. If you haven’t gone to a concert recently at your local middle or high school I encourage you to do so. It’s exciting and inspiring to hear great music coming from these kids.
