Letter: Republican reply rings hollow

I watched the Republican reply to the State of the Union speech. As much as I tried to connect with the “freedom” message I had a very hard time. I do not have the freedom to obtain gender-affirming care, to plan my family, to be as “woke” as I choose, to permit my child to read any book she needs, to be as liberal as I want without being demonized, or to study slavery, reconstruction and Jim Crow.

The only freedom I heard from Sarah Huckabee Sanders was freedom from regulations and high taxes, for what that is worth. I definitely don’t have freedom from government interference in my life.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
