BATTLE GROUND — Lewis River Rotary celebrated 30 years of service at its Jan. 28 Charter Night held at Windy Hills Winery in Ridgefield. The club has been serving the north Clark County area since its inception in 1993. Members celebrated with a catered dinner, celebration cake and a program to recognize this year’s outstanding members.

Lewis River Rotary’s main service projects are providing more than $20,000 for college and vocational scholarships each year, growing fresh produce and providing financial support to the North Clark County Food Bank, “adoption” and revitalization of Battle Ground Central Park and the Citizen of the Year Rose Garden, regular Highway 502 trash cleanup, providing mock interview experiences for students at Battle Ground High School, providing vouchers for coats and underwear for needy students in Battle Ground School District, volunteering and providing financial support to the Pomeroy Living History Farm, sponsoring and supporting a Boy Scout Troop, and sponsoring one or two young adults each year to Rotary Youth Leadership training. Internationally the club has hosted many Rotary Youth Exchange and Creating Friendships for Peace students and also supports secondary school students’ education in Tanzania.

The club earns money to support the local and international efforts with an annual Wine Auction fundraiser, this year to be held April 1 at ilani. Tickets can be purchased at LewisRiverRotary.org.

President Kelly Muscarella-Park bestowed annual club recognition of outstanding members with the following awards: David Jay Rotarian of the Year award — Mal Ellison; Norm Swanson Leadership Award — Linda Allen; Five Avenues of Service — Nancy Heidrick; Service Above Self — Kathleen Hensch-Fleming and Mike Robinson; Distinguished Service Award — Tammy Haas; Rookie of the Year: Shayne Park. Nancy Heidrick also won the drawing for a Paul Harris Fellow award.
