Prep Roundup: Skyview boys rally falls short against Kentwood 71-60

The Skyview boys basketball team had its second-half rally come up short in a 71-60 non-league loss at Kentwood on Saturday.

Skyview (8-6) was down by 14 at the half as the Storm had to sit four players due to foul trouble.

The Storm managed to get within 57-49 with 5:39 to play, but Kentwood made some big shots and went 7 for 7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Demaree Collins led the Storm in scoring with 28 points. Javen Fletch, in his first start of the season, had 10 points, and Malakai Weimer led with 13 rebounds.

Girls basketball

WOODLAND 40, COLUMBIA RIVER 34 — Woodland handed Columbia River its first league loss with the 2A Greater St. Helens League win on River’s home court.

River (8-4, 8-1 overall) led 16-10 at halftime, and the Beavers (10-4, 7-2) closed the gap to 26-24 by the end of the third quarter.

Addi Stading led Woodland with 10 points, all coming in the second half.

Marley Myers topped River scorers with 11 points.

R.A. LONG 46, HOCKINSON 43 — The Lumberjills scored as many points from the free-throw line (23) as they did from the field and held off Hockinson for their first 2A GSHL win of the season.

R.A. Long (1-9, 1-8 2A GSHL) was 23 of 37 from the line, while Hockinson was just 4 for 13.

Grace House led R.A. Long in scoring with 17 points to go with eight rebounds, and Breyelle Box had 14 points and eight rebounds.

Allie Seekins and Siena Brown each scored 14 points for Hockinson (1-11, 1-7).

Stars of the Day

  • Gretchen Lane, Prairie gymnastics, won the all-around with a score of 35.15 in a meet with Union, Prairie and Ridgefield. She as first on the beam (9.1), and floor (9.5), tied for second on bars and tied for third on vault.
  • Owen Robertson, Union boys swimming, won the 200 freestyle (1:46.61), 500 free (4:51.55), anchored the Titans’ 200 medley relay win (1:42.64), and started the winning 400 free relay (3:29.97) at the Kelso Invitational.
