Letter: Vote Democratic

Recently Roy Schimelpfenig gave some vague reasons why we should “Vote Republican” (Our Readers’ Views, June 30). I would like to respond with some facts as to why we should vote Democrat.

First is jobs. More jobs have been added during Joe Biden’s first two years in office than projected. There have been 29 consecutive months of job growth. Second is the deficit. In the last three decades, deficits have risen during Republican administrations and fallen under Democratic administrations. Third is inflation. Inflation rates are high worldwide. The inflation rate in the U.S. is lower than in most industrialized countries.

What are Republican priorities? They want to sunset or end Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. They claim to be the party of “family values,” but support a twice-divorced man who’s had affairs with porn stars. They tout themselves as the party of law and order, but praise Jan. 6 insurrectionists as patriots and dismiss the fact that their favorite ex-president has been indicted for stealing classified documents.

Vote blue if you value the rights of women to control their own bodies, believe that all voters should have fair access to the polls and respect the rule of law.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
