Mr. Schimelpfenig exhorted us to, “Vote Republican” (Our Readers’ Views, June 30). Is he convinced that the majority of people who read his letters are easily suckered into believing fearful conspiracies and misstatements that have been floating about for a few years? Apparently, evil Democrats, the Biden crime family, false journalism, the radical socialist/Marxist attacks on our education system, our eventual demise and eradication due to China and other evildoers, and other fears and dangers, real or imagined … are all out to get us.
Unsurprisingly, Mr. Schimelpfenig informs us that if only we “chase after the Lord when hope is lost,” our children will be loved, they will grow up in a country with comprehensive health care, an education that teaches them to be critical thinkers without censoring books and subject matter, and making sure that they can go to school and walk around their neighborhood without being shot.
Apparently, his small God operates on a quid pro quo basis and most parents, educators and reasonable adults know that threats and heavy-handed tactics never work. If all of this goodness will be accomplished simply by voting Republican, does that mean that God is a Republican? His son may be disappointed to learn this.
