I add my “Amen” to all the letters against fireworks. I hate the Fourth of July. I shouldn’t, because the Declaration of Independence is one of the great documents of all time.
I don’t know what to make of Battle Ground. It has been taken over by “bombers.” They set off illegal devices that do nothing but make a lot of noise and concussions. They started a week early. And they’re still going. No color or bright formations to look at — just noise.
Who are the people doing this? I think that these are modern-day barbarians, who like disturbing us. Keeping us awake. And the law helps them do it. Between 11 and midnight on the Fourth, I (from my house on a hill) saw less than a half-dozen fireworks displays in the entire town, though there were many more explosions. A half-dozen folks who get to keep the rest of the 20,000-plus residents awake for an extra hour — on the night before most of us have to go to work.
Then, of course, there are the fires. Including one house in Yacolt that was a total loss. A family now homeless. That’s one house too many.
