WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Patty Murray announced Wednesday a $10 million grant for semiconductor workforce development and research at the University of Washington.
“This funding is a big deal for the University of Washington and will help our state remain a leader in semiconductor manufacturing and building a skilled semiconductor workforce,” said Murray, D-Wash., chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee,.
According to the announcement, the funding will go towards the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS) for the Future project, a collaboration between six American universities and five Japanese universities. The grant is allocated through the National Science Foundation and is funded by the CHIPS and Science Act.
“The UPWARDS for the Future project is going to give students in Washington state really unique opportunities to collaborate with their peers and become part of tomorrow’s STEM workforce,” said Murray.
