Letter: Examine defense budget

The budget crisis was resolved due to unexpected cooperation in Congress to hike the debt limit.

Sadly, the Pentagon budget was untouched by the cuts that were enacted to make this resolution possible. Why is that? Because the American people have been fooled into believing that our defense spending is about “supporting our troops.” In reality it is not about the men and women serving in the armed forces, but protecting Department of Defense contractors that routinely spend over half of the Pentagon’s budget.

I pointed this out in considerable detail to then-candidate Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in the early stages of her campaign. I am disappointed she is not looking at this issue as closely as she did with the student loan forgiveness bill.

We are spending ourselves into oblivion not to support those who have served in the armed forces, but to make companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman more profitable.

Congresswoman Perez, please take note of what I showed you back in April 2022. If you seek to be a different kind of elected official, how about taking a hard look at the fraud, waste and abuse in our defense spending?
