Construction of a new shared-use path on the south side of state Highway 500 between Northeast 162nd and 166th avenues will start June 20. The path will allow for better connectivity for those who bike and walk to Pioneer Elementary School and Frontier Middle School.

This project will provide a marked crossing from the neighborhoods south of Highway 500 to the schools on the north side of the highway. High-intensity activated crosswalk, commonly referred to as HAWK, signals will be installed on the highway at Northeast 166th Avenue. The HAWK signal only operates when a pedestrian pushes the crossing button. Vehicles are free to move when no one is crossing the street.

Between June and September, travelers using state Highway 500 should expect daytime intermittent single-lane closures and flaggers through the work zone.

This $1 million project is scheduled for completion this fall.
