ROSE VILLAGE — In just one year, the people of River City Church have collectively volunteered 10,150 hours in Vancouver, surpassing the number of hours in an entire calendar year. River City Church has worked to be actively involved in the Fourth Plain neighborhood. They have partnered with several local organizations, including the Clark County Juvenile Justice Center, Vancouver Public Schools, Council for the Homeless, League of United Latin American Citizens.

During the first few months of COVID lockdown, River City opened the Fourth Plain Pit Stop in its parking lot, providing bathrooms and hand-washing stations 7 days a week for the unhoused members of the Clark County community.

Since then, the church has thrown a giant Christmas party for underresourced families, pampered single moms for its annual Mother’s Day project, given out hundreds of food boxes each weekend, hosted a winter weather shelter for unhoused individuals and more. Including a new tradition: Creating Birthday Celebration Kits for every single student experiencing houselessness or in foster care in the Vancouver School District.

Another one of the ways River City Church is able to serve the community is by “canceling” its worship gathering on the second Sunday of each month to serve the community together instead. This has proven to be an intentional time where people get to know others in the community while they are serving alongside them. The River City Church family looks forward to making an even greater impact in the next year!
