I read with interest that the city of Vancouver and our mayor are excited about buying the empty space by the downtown library for a future transit center when the MAX line comes here (“Vancouver eyes property near downtown library for transit center,” The Columbian, May 11).
I have so many questions. Who will provide the security? C-Tran, with officers that sit in their vehicles or TriMet? Will there be only one level of parking? If there are more than one level, will the transit center have issues with homeless people living there and using the bathroom? Will there be public bathrooms for the riders when they get off the MAX and either take another bus, buses or car home? The main library only has one bathroom open now due to drug use.
Will the buses be able to board and unload passengers close to the MAX or will we have to walk the block or so? Will C-Tran move the stupid Fourth Plain and Highway 99 stops closer to the transit center or will the riders have to transfer to another bus if they have mobility issues?
