Letter: Defend Second Amendment

I am sure that Richard Atkins is a nice man, but before he begins advocating the loss of constitutional rights of others, he should do a thorough reading of the Constitution of the United States of America (“Tactical weapons are not for sport,” Our Readers’ Views, June 22). If he does not understand the words, help is out there.

The Second Amendment is not about sporting arms used to hunt or shoot targets, rather it is precisely about free citizens being able to defend themselves and their families from criminal harm or the tyranny of government, which does happen, as history of world civilizations tells us. So, lobby on Atkins, but be better served advocating against crime and tyranny … not our Constitution.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
