Letter: Biden makes a difference

It’s a truism in politics that elections have consequences and we are now seeing the results of electing Joe Biden as president. He signed into law the American Rescue Plan which led to the creation of over 12 million jobs and an unemployment rate of 3.4 percent, the lowest in 53 years. This law gave $1,400 to almost every American to get us through the pandemic and it cut child poverty by 40 percent.

Biden signed an infrastructure bill to repair our bridges and roads, upgrade our airports and bring the internet to rural America, and the Inflation Reduction Act makes the richest corporations pay a minimum 15 percent tax while capping prescription drug prices for seniors on Medicare. He reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act, and signed the Pact Act to help veterans exposed to toxic substances and the CHIPS Act to expand manufacturing and innovation.

Biden’s recent visit to Ukraine showed true courage and he has masterfully maintained the coalition to hold Putin accountable for Russian aggression. He rejoined the Paris agreement to save our planet and committed $369 billion to that fight. This is only the most limited accounting of one of the most consequential presidencies in American history.
