PORTLAND — The Portland Timbers are set to host Tigres UANL of Liga MX and the San Jose Earthquakes in the group stage of Leagues Cup 2023, it was announced Thursday.

The Timbers will play Tigres UANL on July 26 at Providence Park, and the MLS Earthquakes on July 22 at Providence Park as part of the West 1 Group.

Tickets for the summer tournament will be available to the general public at noon Tuesday through SeatGeek.

All matches will also be streamed live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish.

It will be the second time that Portland has squared off against Mexican powerhouse Tigres UANL, having beat the Nuevo Leon-based club 2-0 in 2008 at Portland.

The Timbers are 15-1-4 against the Earthquakes at Providence Park.

The group stage of the Leagues Cup tournament marks the entrance for 47 teams from the two top-tier leagues in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Every team will play two matches in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group, as determined by points, advancing to the round of 32.

The Leagues Cup winner will qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League round of 16, and the second and third place clubs will qualify for the Champions League first round.
