Letter: Regulate short-term rentals

By Vicki Coles , VANCOUVER
Published: March 12, 2023, 6:00am

Over a year ago (Feb. 27, 2022) The Columbian published a front-page article titled, “Short-term rentals: Service or scourge?” I was interviewed for the article by Will Campbell and voiced my opposition to them. (I had previously written letters to the editor on the subject.)

In the article, Jason Nortz, development review division manager, indicated survey responses from the city’s website regarding short-term rentals would be discussed by the city council “in the early spring.” That was over a year ago. Maybe discussions have been held, but certainly nothing has happened to regulate short-term rentals, as another is opening in my neighborhood.

I urge the city council to amend the city code to regulate short-term rentals.
