Vancouver police officers responded to a disturbance Friday at Robinwood Apartments in Vancouver to find a man unconscious in a breezeway. The 58-year-old was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to a statement from police, the man and a woman were at the apartment complex, 3311 E. 18th St., to retrieve property from one of the unit’s residents. The woman entered the apartment first; the man entered uninvited shortly after. The apartment resident attempted to remove the pair from the unit and a physical fight ensued.

Police said the apartment resident was kicked and hit in the face and head multiple times with a barstool and cane. According to police, the fight moved outside and the apartment resident hit the 58-year-old man, knocking him unconscious.

Officials said it appears the involved parties knew each other.

The police department’s Major Crime Unit is investigating.
