A community vigil for Meshay “Karmen” Melendez and Layla Stewart will be held Sunday at Esther Short Park in Vancouver.
The family, along with the National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation and the YWCA Clark County are hosting the event. In addition to remembering Melendez, 27, and Layla, 7, the groups hope to bring awareness to the impacts of domestic violence in the community, according to a flyer.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at 605 Esther St.
The organizations note weather forecasters expect rain that day and encourage people to dress appropriately and bring umbrellas.
