Letter: Build tunnel for EVs only

By Bill Pohnan, VANCOUVER
Published: March 23, 2023, 6:00am

I find Mayor Pro Tem Ty Stober’s fixation on an underground tunnel solution to the sticky Interstate 5 Bridge issue to be refreshing and out of the box. Whether bored or immersed sections, a tunnel project should be considered again.

I understand that there might be ventilation issues adding to the overall cost. Thinking a bit more out of the box, make the tunnel accessible only to electric cars and electric trucks (and the occasional gas-powered emergency vehicle). Voila! Little or no toxic emissions to ventilate, and reduced costs for the new tunnel construction. Having access to the new tunnel would also be a great incentive for people to purchase an electric vehicle. Something the county, state, and country needs to emphasize.

It is something that should be seriously (re-)considered.
