CAMAS — Members of 100 Women Who Care Clark County presented $4,200 to Healing Opportunities Foundation on Feb. 8, at their first meeting of 2023, held at Salud! Wine Bar in Camas.

Board President Dr. Kelsey Herman accepted the funds on behalf of the organization, which is the nonprofit arm of Healing Steps Equine Centered Therapy.

The local giving circle selected Healing Opportunities Foundation to receive its donation at the fourth meeting of 2022, held on Nov. 16, 2022 at Salud! Group member Dorothy Shanahan nominated the organization. Fosterful and Girls on the Run were the other nonprofit nominees at that meeting.

Healing Steps is an occupational therapy practice that integrates horses into treatment for many different medical diagnoses including autism, Down syndrome, brain injuries, stroke and multiple sclerosis. The treatment strategies use the movement of the horse or other related equine activities to help improve challenges such as balance, executive functioning and sensory processing.

The donated funds will be used to enhance their new barn with upgrades, including an accessible bathroom.
