A male driver was fatally injured Sunday after he crashed a stolen pickup into a tree along Northeast Washougal River Road, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported about 12:30 a.m. in the 35000 block of Northeast Washougal River Road, according to a sheriff’s office statement. First responders found a truck that had gone off the road and hit a tree.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, who has not been identified, suffered significant injuries in the crash. He was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries, the statement said.

The pickup, a white Ford Ranger, had been reported stolen in Portland on Saturday, according to the statement. This crash remains under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
