Local law enforcement agencies will be increasing patrols this weekend watching for suspected drunk drivers while people celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
The Washington State Patrol will station its Mobile Impaired Driving Unit throughout Southwest Washington Friday and Saturday, where staff will process suspected drunk drivers. This means area law enforcement can focus on patrolling for impaired drivers, according to a State Patrol news release.
“Impaired driving remains a major public safety threat that still claims thousands of innocent lives on our roadways every year. Every impaired driver removed from our roadways is a potential life saved,” State Patrol Captain Jason Linn said in the news release.
In Washington, a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 is considered evidence of drunken driving.
