Prep highlights: Woodland soccer advances into 2A district bracket

Rogellio Santillan-Guzman scored two goals as the Woodland boys soccer team eliminated Black Hills 3-2 in the 2A district pigtail match Thursday at Olympia.

Woodland (9-9) advances to face Columbia River (16-0) on Saturday in the double-elimination bracket.

Black Hills (9-9) led 1-0 at halftime, but the Beavers found the equalizer in the 57th minute when Santillan-Guzman put the ball in bottom left corner to make it 1-1.

A point-blank header by Alexander Cano-Lorenzo put Woodland ahead 2-1 in the 64th minute.

Then with about 10 minutes to play, Santillan-Guzman scored on a free kick and the Beavers had a two-goal advantage.

BAINBRIDGE 3, EVERGREEN 0 — The Plainsmen’s season came to an end with the shutout loss to Bainbridge in the 3A bi-district pigtail match played at Olympia High School.

Evergreen finishes with an 8-7-1 record.

Stars of the day

  • Holt Williams, Camas baseball, went 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored as the Class 4A GSHL champ Papermakers beat Class 3A GSHL champ Prairie 7-3.
  • Candice Adams and Brooke Rausch, Battle Ground softball, each homered and drove in two runs in a 7-2 win over Ridgefield, handing the Spudders just their second loss of the season.
  • Halle Kock, Columbia-White Salmon softball, went 3 for 3 with five RBI, a double and a stolen base as the Bruins remained undefeated with a 19-3 win over Mountain View.
  • Annie Morgan and Allie Flak, Columbia River girls tennis, capped off the Rapids’ 4-2 team win over Mark Morris with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. River wrapped up the 2A GSHL league title with a 14-0 record and has now won 65 consecutive team matches.
