Vancouver Lake’s normally still waters will be churning with activity this weekend.
More than 2,000 rowers from across the Northwest have come to Vancouver for the U.S. Rowing Northwest Youth Championships. Teams are looking to qualify for the National Championships next month in Sarasota, Fla.
In Friday’s time trials, sculls holding from one to five competitors glided along the 2,000 meter course offshore of Vancouver Lake Regional Park. Teams aimed to finish in the top six, which granted qualification to finals today and Sunday.
Vancouver Lake Rowing Club has several teams in this weekend’s competition. The club’s youth members, who compete in divisions up to 19-under, take part in regattas across the Northwest and Canada from April to July.
Finals at Vancouver Lake begin at 8 a.m. today and Sunday.
