WENATCHEE — Proposition 1, concerning the ports of Chelan and Douglas counties unifying tax levy rates across districts, was approved by a vote of 15,919 to 8,710 in the second ballot count Thursday afternoon.

In Chelan County, 14,073 voters, or 77.04 percent, approved the unified port tax levy, while 4,517 voters, or 70.99 percent, rejected the proposition in Douglas County.

The proposition needed a majority vote of approval of the two counties combined to pass.

The unified tax levy will change to approximately 16 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for both districts in the 2024 tax year. The Port of Chelan County’s 2023 tax levy is roughly 17 cents per $1,000 of assessed value; for the Port of Douglas County, it is roughly 13 cents.
