Letter: Lacamas Lake needs help

By Marie Tabata-Callerame, CAMAS
Published: November 11, 2023, 6:00am

Almost four years and $500,000 later, the city of Camas’ draft Lacamas Lake Management Plan recommends doing what the city proposed four years ago — adding chemicals and asking people upstream to stop polluting. The only new revelation is that waiting so long allowed toxic algae to become the dominant species in the lakes, i.e., it killed off its competition and its predators. Camas is still waiting to finalize the draft, for Ecology’s data, for approval, etc. before one drop of water is improved. Please demand better than the incumbents have given you.
