A season of firsts continues for Seton Catholic’s football team.

Another first happened Saturday night in Shoreline — its 56-48 upset victory over King’s in the Class 1A football state playoffs sends the Cougars to next weekend’s state quarterfinals, where it’ll face No. 4-seed Cashmere.

The undefeated Bulldogs (11-0) topped Toppenish, 49-14, in its first-round game.

Seton (10-1) held multiple 20-point leads against King’s, including 34-14, 41-21 and 48-28. The latter came on Ryker Ruleas’ 20-yard touchdown reception with 11 minutes, 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter that gave Seton its 48-28 lead.

That’s when Kings made its comeback. Two quick-strike scores cut the Cougar lead to 48-42, taking just 4:20 off the clock. Yet a Jacob Williams touchdown run, plus a successful two-point conversion, pushed the lead to 56-42 with 5:39 left in the game.
