How Clark County College Football Players Fared: Barnums on opposite sidelines as Portland St. hosts Montana

It was a Barnum family reunion on Saturday in Hillsboro, Ore.

Portland State, coached by Clark County resident Bruce Barnum, hosted Montana in a big game as the Big Sky season hits its homestretch.

Barnum’s son, Cooper Barnum, is a defensive back who has seen consistent playing time for Montana this season as a junior.

The younger Barnum, who graduated from Skyview High School, had two tackles and the Grizzlies won 34-10. The win sets up a showdown against rival Montana State for the Big Sky title next Saturday as both teams are 6-1 in conference play.

A 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, Barnum has recorded a tackle in three straight games. He has 10 tackles on the season and recorded a career-high three on Oct. 28 against Northern Colorado.

Barnum initially attended Washington State to play baseball but switched schools and sports after his freshman year.

The elder Barnum is in his ninth year as Portland State’s head coach. He was the Big Sky and FCS national coach of the year in 2015, when the Vikings went 9-2 and earned a top-10 national ranking.

Here’s how other collegiate football players from Clark County  at four-year programs fared. Note: A blank entry means the player’s team had a bye week.
