Check It Out: Pick up a pack of pumpkin picture books

I don’t know about you, but I am pumped for pumpkins! Whenever October rolls around, I click my heels together because I get to put up Halloween decorations and marvel in the colors that Mother Nature chooses for her wardrobe. By the way, I don’t really click my heels together — I’m sure I’d end up in a heap on the floor. However, figuratively speaking, I clickety-click the whole month.

Pumpkin-themed picture books perk me up, so get ready for a peck of pumpkiny books ready to be picked (and read!) by any pumpkin fan. This week’s reading list will introduce picture book readers to not just pumpkins but zombies, pigs, zoo animals, and a funny old lady. You’ll also meet a young pumpkin learning what Halloween is all about, and for those who wonder how pumpkins are born, a sweet story about planting pumpkin seeds shares the magic of gardening for all ages.

Go, pumpkins, go!

  • “The Great Zombie Pumpkin Parade” written by Robert Burleigh, illustrated by Wendell Minor.
  • “Halloweenie” written by Amanda McCann, illustrated by Simone Fohl.
  • “Peppa’s Pumpkin Day” written by Courtney Carbone, illustrated by Zoe Waring.
  • “Pumpkin Day at the Zoo” written by Susan Meissner, illustrated by Pablo Pino.
