Longview Superintendent Dan Zorn announced during Monday’s school board meeting that he will be retiring at the end of this school year.

After nine years with Longview School District and a total of 39 years in education, it just felt like “time to be done,” Zorn said at the meeting.

Before moving to Longview, Zorn worked as an assistant superintendent, elementary principal, elementary teacher and coach at various schools in Montana. He plans to move back to Kalispell, Mont., to be closer to his family, he said in an interview. Three of his four children, four grandsons, his father and his sister live in Montana, and one of his sons is expecting his first child in April.

Zorn said at the meeting that he would formalize his resignation at the board’s next meeting on Oct. 23.

Until the end of the school year, he will continue to work with the district on projects such as the Replacement Education Programs and Operations Levy, which will be on the ballot for Longview voters February 2024.
