YAKIMA — Wapato police are looking for two men they say robbed a group of students waiting for a school bus Monday morning.

Five students were waiting for a bus near North Wasco Avenue and West C Street around 7:15 a.m. when a hatchback vehicle pulled up, and a man got out armed with a handgun, according to a police department news release. The man demanded the students turn over their possession and shoes.

The robber got back in the car and left when a school bus approached, the release said. None of the students were injured.

The students described the robber and the other man as wearing blue clothes, the release said. Police are stepping up patrols around bus stops.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Wapato police at 509-877-4275 or the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office at 509-574-2500. Tips may also be left with Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or online at https://yhne.ws/crimestoppers.
