Joseph Hamann’s letter claiming that the rich paid an “inordinate” amount of taxes is naive (“Spending cuts are the answer,” Our Readers’ Views, Oct. 14). It has recently been reported that an estimated $688 billion a year in taxes go unpaid. Gee, I wonder what social class is able to do that. Certainly not the wage-earner who has his wages taxed at the source.
