LINCOLN — Grace and Lucy Sherman have helped decorate their grandmother’s home and the neighboring houses of Franklin Street for five years running, and have no plans to stop.
The twins, 22, keep the Halloween spirit alive by helping the neighborhood get ready for Oct 31.
“Cecilia and Jim Mains, our neighbors, have been decorating for decades and they have been a part of our family since we were babies. We love to help them and our other neighbors get decorated,” said Grace Sherman.
This Halloween, Franklin Street has added two more homes. One is dressed up as an old pumpkin patch and the other is a haunted forest. Both of these homes fill out the entire block at 46th and Franklin in the Northwest Neighborhood in Vancouver.
Each holiday means something special for the Sherman twins. “We really love the spirit of the holidays, it can bring friends and families together – everyone can find something magical, and it’s just fun!” said Lucy.
In December, the Shermans’ home is the Christmas centerpiece. Their father, David Sherman, climbs to place a star at the very top of a 30-foot tree.
“This year we had New Day Arborists donate their time and crew to place lights on the outside of the entire tree,” Lucy Sherman said. “This will really help the tree stand out this year.” But neighbors will need to wait until after Thanksgiving to enjoy those lights.
The sisters attend Clark College. Lucy, is studying to enter into law enforcement, and Grace is planning a career in education.
Lucy manages the neighborhood display’s social media pages. “We have amazing engagement on social media. Some of our videos and posts have reached over 150,000 views. It’s so much fun engaging with fans on various platforms.”
Last Halloween more than 12,000 trick-or-treaters visited Franklin Street. Lights, music and special effects are on nightly from 6-9 p.m. Weekends feature live guests spooking the visitors after dark.
On Halloween night, trick-or-treating takes place from 5-9 p.m. with many special guests out in the display and interacting with guests, including the Ghostbusters, Barbie, Michael Myers and many more.
