What a beautiful weekend we have in store weatherwise: crisp fall weather with blue, sunny skies and frosty nights. This will continue into early next week before milder and wetter Pacific air returns.
Our current air mass is coming from a cold high-pressure system over southern Canada. If we were a couple of months down the road, we would be in a deep freeze for sure. The National Weather Service in Portland issued a freeze warning for us; it will be the first frost for many Clark County residents.
Thursday’s low was 36 degrees in Vancouver, the coldest low temperature of the fall season. Friday morning, we dipped to 38 degrees under overcast skies. With the clear skies prevalent in the afternoon hours Friday, I expect that the temperature will drop quickly after dark and we will fall below 38 degrees by midnight.
The cold weather dumped plenty of snow in the ski areas. Pictures showed Mount Hood looking like a winter wonderland. Of course, plenty of that will evaporate and melt over the next few days. I think that when we get back to the autumn rains late next week, the snow levels may be above the ski areas, at least at first.
