Letter: Trump doesn’t support America

Carrie Ross in her letter (“No morals at all on the left,” Our Readers’ Views, Oct. 18) makes many statements that are illogical, misleading, and untrue. First, she complained that Ilhan Omar asked for prayers for Palestinians. Anyone paying attention can see that innocent people on both sides of the present conflict in Israel and Gaza are suffering, and concern for victims of war has nothing to do with which government you support.

She also says that Trump “supports America.” Trump has been indicted for stealing (and possibly sharing) important classified documents. He’s been indicted in Georgia for election interference. And, he’s been charged with trying to overturn the 2020 election. He is the first president in U.S. history to refuse to commit to a peaceful transfer of power after losing an election. If the insurrection, which he is charged with inciting, had succeeded, the U.S. would no longer be a democracy.

The most disturbing aspect of all this is not just that Trump is accused of so many serious crimes, but that the vast majority of Republicans in Congress still see him as the leader of their party and support him as their candidate in 2024. Some might say, “No morals at all.”
