A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist drowned Wednesday while conducting a summer steelhead survey in the Wind River north of Carson, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office’s communications center received a report of a woman entrapped in the river. Deputies and personnel from Skamania County EMS responded. Due to the conditions, the Region 4 Technical Rescue Team, Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, and search and rescue teams from Skamania, Clark and Klickitat responded.

The 31-year-old woman was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said.

“This was a tragic accident, and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is mournful for the victim’s family, friends and co-workers,” Sheriff Summer Scheyer said in a news release. “I want to extend my utmost gratitude to all of the personnel who responded and assisted our agency in the recovery efforts.”
