How Clark County College Football Players Fared: Merriweather gives Notre Dame big-play potential

Victor has another big game for Washington State

Tobias Merriweather showed why he’s considered one of Notre Dame’s biggest deep-play threats.

The sophomore receiver from Union High School hauled in a 75-yard touchdown pass in Saturday’s 41-17 win over Central Michigan. It was the first touchdown this season for Merriweather, who finished the game with 91 yards on three catches.

In reaching 21.4 mph on the play, Merriweather recorded the fifth-fastest time of any major college player Saturday, according to Reel Analytics.

Merriweather’s 6-foot-4 frame and 4.2-second 40-yard dash made him one of the state’s top recruits in the Class of 2022. He showed his potential right away, earning playing time as a true freshman and catching a 41-yard touchdown pass on Oct. 15 against Stanford.

After missing the second half of last season with post-concussion symptoms, Merriweather entered this season expecting to play a bigger role in Notre Dame’s offense. He has started all four games and has six catches for 141 yards.

The Irish have a deep receiving corps, with eight players having five or more catches. But Merriweather’s speed is used to stretch opposing defenses and his 23.5 yards per catch is second-highest on the team.

“I’ve just been patient throughout the first few weeks,” Merriweather said in a post-game press conference Saturday. “Obviously, opportunity comes your way.”

Here’s how other collegiate football players from Clark County fared. Note: A blank entry means the player’s team had a bye week.
