Jane Weber Evergreen Arboretum announces first Don Bonker Volunteers of the Year

Published:

OLD EVERGREEN HIGHWAY — Jane Weber Evergreen Arboretum recently honored volunteers Norma and Jerry Williams with its first Don Bonker Volunteer of the Year Award. The pair received a certificate and will have a tree planted in their name on the arboretum grounds this fall.

The Williamses have been dedicated volunteers for nine years. The arboretum board gave a dinner of appreciation for the pair and their fellow volunteers on Sept. 7. The event drew a crowd of 32 guests, including Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle and her husband, who brought a delicious plum crisp made with the fruit of the arboretum plum trees.

Bonker, who died earlier this year, served Southwest Washington in Congress from 1975-1989.
