Letter: Gluesenkamp Perez on right side

Joe Kent is at it again — twisting facts to fit his narrative and promote himself as someone with foreign policy credibility (“U.S. position cruel, irresponsible,” The Columbian, Sept. 18). Cruelty is not helping to fund Ukraine’s war effort. Cruelty and shortsightedness is not assisting.

What Kent doesn’t mention in his op-ed is that there have been well over five sets of peace talks and numerous attempts at initiating peace talks over the last year and a half of the conflict but Russia continuously moves the bar or demands that Ukraine cede large swaths of land.

The only two things left for the U.S. is to, stop supporting/funding the Ukrainians, which will lead to Russia swallowing the country and emboldening Putin to be more of a brute than he is already, or continue to help fund the war effort. Yes, it is messy, but President Zelenskyy has thus far proven himself a good steward of the aid that has been given his country. He is a hero for trying to stop a Goliath.

I’m grateful to Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for understanding the nuances of this and voting to fund Ukraine’s war effort.

She is on the right side.
