Letter: See truth of Trump rebellion

It’s important to recognize what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, on the steps and inside one of our most hallowed grounds. Not hallowed for a religion, a creed or a flash-in-the-pan cult, hallowed for what transpires daily within those walls, our Capitol.

That day, America staged its first Kristallnacht in honor of the Trump party, for the whole world to see, and yes, to wonder at how far we have fallen and how high the GOP has put the bar for us to lower once again. It was the night of the long knives. Nov. 9, 1938, when Germany officially crossed over the line, when a demagogue condoned, nay demanded the suspension of all pretenses of decency and integrity. Jan. 6, 2021, less than a century from the pogrom that enshrined the right to go to war against our own values we held dear. He did not do it alone. The same force of evil still roams the land.

It is time to reflect on where we are headed and to call a stop, prosecute the guilty, and mete out justice. Don’t kid yourselves, there is no difference between a Nazi SS and a Trump SS.
