Letter: Question gun-control measures

By Steven Silvey, Vancouver

In my opinion the questions about gun control should be multiple:

1. Given all the restrictions placed on gun owners where is the data? Meaning real deaths, not suicide figures, but actual details.

2. Have they gone down for our state, not the country?

3. Why did Democrats block Senate Bill 5049, which addresses the issue of gun theft and places folks in jail for the crime?

It appears that the goal of this group is to take away firearms from law-abiding citizens, to make it difficult to obtain, by passing other mandates which do not attack the Second Amendment, but through laws that make it difficult to obtain. That in itself should concern folks. What is the end game?

The issue is that our representatives do not represent all people, but the party or only those who vote for them. The further issue with one of the bills signed is that it shall put folks out of work, reduce tax dollars collected, and make it more difficult to partake in legal activities for now, yet our representatives voted for increasing taxes on property.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
