SEATTLE — A 2-year-old who was shot in a Federal Way parking lot Thursday morning later died of his injures, according to the Federal Way Police Department. The child was likely hit as a relative and another person were shooting at each other, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 9:58 a.m. in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Drive, near a restaurant. A few minutes later, St. Francis Hospital called police to tell them a 2-year-old had been taken there with a gunshot wound. The child was then taken to Harborview Medical Center and was in critical condition, police said.

Police announced his death at 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Federal Way Police said their preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was “not a random occurrence.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Federal Way Police Department at 253-835-2121.
