Letter: Columnist skews information

I often read George Will’s columns out of curiosity to understand the viewpoint of conservatives. His latest one regarding government transfer payments again shows to me how many conservatives skew information to prove their point (“Good news awkward for all,” The Columbian, March 29).

Mr. Will seems to have forgotten that the “six-country opinion survey” included countries with universal health care for their citizens. The U.S. does not have that. Even with the Affordable Care Act, Americans still pay something for their health care. The U.S. also has the highest prescription rates, and those costs will take away from budgets for food, housing, etc. Yes, there are people who “work the system,” but those people are in every economic class, not just the poor.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
