Michael J. Fox announced his retirement from acting in late 2020, but now says he’s open to making a return to the screen if the right role comes along.
The “Back to the Future” star, 62, spoke about the possibility in an interview with Entertainment Tonight this week.
“If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great,” said the “Family Ties” alum. “I would do acting if [a role] came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out.”
Fox also reflected on his experience working on “Still, his acclaimed 2023 AppleTV+ documentary, which chronicled his decadeslong battle with Parkinson’s disease. Fox was diagnosed with the disorder in 1991 when he was just 29 years old.
“It was fun,” the five-time Emmy winner said of filming the doc, which he also wrote. “I never would have set that as a goal. It just happened.”
When asked about his life’s aspirations, the “Teen Wolf” star said his biggest goal has always been to raise a family.
“We have four amazing kids and that’s been the big thing,” he said of his life with wife Tracy Pollan, to whom he’s been married since 1988 after meeting on the set of “Family Ties.”
“The other [goal] is with the foundation,” he added.
Founded in 2000, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research aims to find a cure for the progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and the body parts controlled by it.
Fox announced in November 2020 that he would retire from acting as his condition continued to get worse — a decision he said last year was inspired in part by Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar winning film “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”
