Letter: Trump threatens democracy

It’s wrong. Just plain wrong. The U.S. House of Representatives effectively has been replaced by a dictator, Donald Trump. If he tells his spineless Republican toadies in the House to kill a bill, it’s dead. A bipartisan bill that would have strengthened border security, dead. After all, chaos at the border is one of his strongest campaign wedges. Aid to Ukraine, dead. His control of the Senate is somewhat less than in the House, but his MAGA puppets there are equally subservient in doing his bidding.

He’s promised to be a dictator during his first day in office if elected to a second term. Believe him. But he already is dictating government policy as a civilian puppet master, and he has been doing so for some time. (It’s reminiscent of mob boss Al Capone controlling the city of Chicago.) So why would anyone expect this egomaniacal narcissist to rein in his lust for absolute power after just 24 hours?

Trump already is the de facto dictator of our country from outside the government. Just imagine the carnage that would result if he were inside the government as head of the most powerful nation on the planet. Democracy survives? Very unlikely!
