Washougal School District Superintendent Mary Templeton has been selected as the new superintendent at the Lake Stevens School District in Snohomish County. Templeton’s last day in Washougal will be June 30.

Templeton led Washougal for six years and recently led the development of the district’s 2025 strategic plan, which it will use to make overarching policy decisions for the next five years.

“Through the last six years, Mary has consistently focused on increasing student achievement and opportunities. Her determination to see our students and our district rise to our full potential has led to the highest graduation rate on record,” said Angela Hancock, the president of the district’s board of directors. “The board deeply appreciates her steady leadership throughout some of the most difficult years we have seen in public education.”

The school board will meet in the coming weeks on next steps to fill Templeton’s vacancy.
