Weather Eye: Weather returns to cool, rainy, at times unsettled

The anticipated change to our weather is underway today and for several days beyond. I expect a soaking rain and by midnight we should have upward of one-half inch in some of the Clark County rain gauges.

Showers are scattered on Friday and with a few sunbreaks that would trigger some moderate to heavy showers but as of this point in time, thunderstorms with hail and lightning should remain at bay.

We keep unsettled weather going through the weekend and into early next week. Rainfall amounts will vary but should be more typical of April. Temperatures cool today through Saturday with highs struggling to reach 60 degrees.

Next week along with the rain showers temperatures will also be on the cool side with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s.

You ask, hey Pat, what is our normal high temperature for late April? Well, I can tell you! Today’s average high is 64 degrees and by the last day of the month it will be 65 degrees.

We will remain below the average temperature. Some snow will be falling over the weekend and next week at the Cascades passes and at times the higher reaches of Silver Star may get a dusting of white. Not unusual.

Vancouver is running nearly 2 degrees above average so far this month with a mix of those pleasant 70-degree days and the cooler nights in the 30s to keep that statistic from ballooning.

No warm spell

Between now and the end of the month we would need about 2 inches of rain to say April was a normal month rain-wise. Will it rain that much before the clock ticks down? Questionable, but I would be pleasantly amazed if it did.

Last year at about this time we were easing into a warm spell with a burst of spring fever by many as we experienced four days in the 80s topping out at 88 degrees. Coming up we will be some 25-30 degrees cooler than that. But we endure and enjoy what each day gives us.

We’ll chat again as the weekend begins.
